incredulous she heard。 Could this ´ This be the world拭this place of love

and bliss Where then was hid the strange and hideous charm察That never

failed to bring the gazer harm拭She crossed herself察yet asked察and listened

still察And still the knight described with all his skill The glorious world of

joy察all joys above察Transfigured in the golden mist of love。 Spread察spread

from her sight But no察days passed察matins and vespers rang察And still the

quiet Nuns toiled察prayed察and sang察And never guessed the fatal察coiling

Still Angela strove to dream察and strove in vain察Awakened once察she could

seemed to fill her soul察A longing that was stronger than control此 Once

more察just once again察to see the place That knew her young and innocent察

to retrace The long and weary southern path察to gaze Upon the haven of

her childish days察Once more beneath the convent roof to lie察Once more

to look upon her homeand die Weary and wornher comrades察 chill

remorse And black despair察yet a strange silent force Within her heart察that

drew her more and more ´ Onward she crawled察and begged from door to

hour察till one day's dawn at length察As first its rays flooded the world with

Would any know her拭 Nay察no fear。 Her face Had lost all trace of youth察

Terror and anguish seemed to check her breath察And stop her heart。 Oh

she brought the key to unbar the gate。 The beggar tried to thank her as she
