OLD MAN。 O gentle Faustus察leave this damned art察This magic察that

will charm thy soul to hell察And quite bereave thee of salvation Though

thou hast now offended like a man察Do not persever in it like a devil此Yet察

yet thou hast an amiable soul察If sin by custom grow not into nature察Then察

Faustus察 will repentance come too late察 Then thou art banish'd from the

thy body察may amend thy soul。

FAUSTUS。 Where art thou察 Faustus拭 wretch察 what hast thou done拭

Hell claims his right察and with a roaring voice Says察 Faustus察come察thine

hour is almost come察─And Faustus now will come to do thee right。

     MEPHISTOPHILIS gives him a dagger。А

OLD MAN。 O察stay察good Faustus察stay thy desperate steps I see an

angel hover o'er thy head察And察with a vial full of precious grace察Offers to

pour the same into thy soul此Then call for mercy察and avoid despair。

FAUSTUS。 O friend察I feel Thy words to comfort my distressed soul

Leave me a while to ponder on my sins。

OLD MAN。 Faustus察I leave thee察but with grief of heart察Fearing the

enemy of thy hapless soul。 Exit。А

FAUSTUS。 Accursed Faustus察 wretch察 what hast thou done拭 I do

my sovereign lord此Revolt察or I'll in piece´meal tear thy flesh。

     FAUSTUS。 I do repent I e'er offended him。 Sweet Mephistophilis察

entreat thy lord To pardon my unjust presumption察And with my blood

FAUSTUS。 Torment察sweet friend察that base and aged man察That durst

dissuade me from thy Lucifer察With greatest torments that our hell

affords。

MEPHIST。 His faith is great察I cannot touch his soul察But what I may

afflict his body with I will attempt察which is but little worth。

FAUSTUS。 One thing察good servant察let me crave of thee察To glut the

longing of my heart's desire察That I may have unto my paramour That

heavenly Helen which I saw of late察 Whose sweet embraces may

love of thee察 Instead of Troy察 shall Wittenberg be sack'd察 And I will

combat with weak Menelaus察And wear thy colours on my plumed crest察

Yea察I will wound Achilles in the heel察And then return to Helen for a kiss。

O察 thou art fairer than the evening air Clad in the beauty of a

Arethusa's azur'd arms察 And none but thou shalt be my
