      SCENE I。 Britain。 The garden of CYMBELINE'S

                                      palace

FIRST GENTLEMAN。 You do not meet a man but frowns察 our

bloods No more obey the heavens than our courtiers Still seem as does the

King's。 SECOND GENTLEMAN。 But what's the matter拭 FIRST

GENTLEMAN。 His daughter察 and the heir of's kingdom察 whom He

purpos'd to his wife's sole son´ a widow That late he married´ hath referr'd

herself Unto a poor but worthy gentleman。 She's wedded察 Her husband

banish'd察she imprison'd。 All Is outward sorrow察though I think the King

Be touch'd at very heart。 SECOND GENTLEMAN。 None but the King拭

FIRST GENTLEMAN。 He that hath lost her too。 So is the Queen察That

most desir'd the match。 But not a courtier察Although they wear their faces

to the bent Of the King's looks察hath a heart that is not Glad at the thing

they scowl at。 SECOND GENTLEMAN。 And why so拭 FIRST

GENTLEMAN。 He that hath miss'd the Princess is a thing Too bad for bad

report察 and he that hath her´ I mean that married her察 alack察 good man

And therefore banish'd´ is a creature such As察to seek through the regions

of the earth For one his like察there would be something failing In him that

should compare。 I do not think So fair an outward and such stuff within

Endows a man but he。 SECOND GENTLEMAN。 You speak him far。

FIRST GENTLEMAN。 I do extend him察 sir察 within himself察 Crush him

together rather than unfold His measure duly。 SECOND GENTLEMAN。

What's his name and birth拭FIRST GENTLEMAN。 I cannot delve him to

the root察his father Was call'd Sicilius察who did join his honour Against the

Romans with Cassibelan察But had his titles by Tenantius察whom He serv'd

with glory and admir'd success察So gain'd the sur´addition Leonatus察And

had察besides this gentleman in question察Two other sons察who察in the wars

o' th' time察Died with their swords in hand察for which their father察Then old

and fond of issue察took such sorrow That he quit being察and his gentle lady察

Big of this gentleman察our theme察deceas'd As he was born。 The King he

takes the babe To his protection察 calls him Posthumus Leonatus察 Breeds

him and makes him of his bed´chamber察Puts to him all the learnings that

King拭FIRST GENTLEMAN。 His only child。 He had two sons´ if this be

FIRST GENTLEMAN。 Howsoe'er 'tis strange察Or that the negligence may

well be laugh'd at察Yet is it true察sir。 SECOND GENTLEMAN。 I do well

Your gaoler shall deliver you the keys That lock up your restraint。 For you察

Posthumus察So soon as I can win th' offended King察I will be known your

advocate。 Marry察yet The fire of rage is in him察and 'twere good You lean'd

unto his sentence with what patience Your wisdom may inform you。

POSTHUMUS。 Please your Highness察I will from hence to´day。 QUEEN。

You know the peril。 I'll fetch a turn about the garden察pitying The pangs of

troth察 My residence in Rome at one Philario's察Who to my father was a
